For three or four generations a
One-Dollar-Thirty-Six a Gallon
Gas Tax for Some Hoosiers

From the the Australian winning bidders investment report regarding the Indiana Toll Road:

from page 22, Macquarie Infrastructure's Announcement to investors of their preferred bidder status.

There was  question if the increase in the toll would be retroactive after  2010.   Macquarie's chart above says yes:  "June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2011: Catch up of prior 4 years growth"

Since the toll would rise the maximum  of 2% or CPI OR GDP/CAPITA, we can say for certain that in Daniels lame duck term if he would be re elected the toll will increase at the rate that would have happened with out his first term freeze in increases:
2006............
2007
2%/3%
2008
2%/3%
2009
2%/3%
2010
2%/3%
5.1¢
5.202¢  /5.253¢
5.306¢/ 5.41¢
5.412¢/ 5.573¢
5.52¢/ 5.74¢

So for a vehicle driving the length of the Indiana Toll road, the toll would jump from

Commercial  Traffic - Origins & Destinations /Total starting or finishing in Indiana 54%
This is for commercial... one would think that passenger travel would be even higher for local traffic.

Charging different tolls for Hoosiers violates the Interstate Commerce protections. This amendment will be struck down by established precedence.

INDOT will ignore the request to move I-69 out of Perry Township arguing to do so would require years of study.

These two amendments were only to give the Representatives who wrote them plausible excuses for voting against the interests of their constituents. The should be rewarded with a new title, "EX-State Representative".

BTW a 5¢ per mile toll is equal to a $1.00 per gallon gas tax for a vehicle getting 20 MPG.

20 mpg X 5¢ per mile= $1.00 per gallon gas tax equivalent.

[40mpg X 5¢ per mile= $2.00 per gallon gas tax equivalent.  (Trade that hybrid for a Hummer quick.)]

The current Gas tax for Hoosiers not tolled is

Current gasoline taxes are from  (http://www.indianagasprices.com/tax_info.aspx):

Federal tax per gallon 18¢
State tax per gallon 18,4¢
Total  36.4¢ gallon

So:

State & Fed tax
36.4¢
20mpg

=1.82¢ per mile

The current Indiana "fleet" is estimated at 22 MPG.

Conservatively using our 20 MPG figure, if I-69 would only match 2006 Indiana Toll Road pricing,  persons living on SR 37 and New Terrain I-69 can expect to pay  the current gas tax 1.82¢ per mile and the new toll tax of 5.1¢ = 6.92¢ per mile compared to other Hoosiers 1.82¢ per mile for their roads.

This is a 380% higher tax on the I-69 road than other all roads in the state except for the Indiana Toll Road.
Tolling is bad public policy, but the unborn can't lobby so tax them now and save some "sense" at the gas pumps state wide.

Bloomington in Monroe County would be hit hardest with this tax and has passed no fewer than 4 resolutions opposing I-69 there.  Is this fair?  We  say NO!
