Indianapolis, IN 46204
Dear Governor O’Bannon,
I am writing to express my grave concern and dismay over the proposed
extension of I-69 from Indianapolis to Evansville. Please stop any
authorization or appropriation of monies for this project until the new
terrain route is abandoned.
I am opposed to this highway for a number of reasons:
- At the cost to taxpayers of up to $3.85
billion, I believe it is fiscally irresponsible
- The cost of farmland, forestland, and wetland
is economically and environmentally irresponsible
- The cost to the communities of rural and
pristine southern Indiana is reprehensible
- Indiana and the Nation will lose money on this
project
- Our tax dollars need to be spent on our local
roads, which are in dismal shape
This is not an economic solution for the problems of southern Indiana
communities.
It will cause a much heavier tax burden on these communities that will
be forced to increase police, fire, hospital and ambulance services.
The county roads and bridges are in such disrepair, that it will be
years before the money is available to fix them. This project will take
money from where it is desperately needed.
The southern Indiana rural way of life will be forever altered; air
pollution, noise pollution, crime and unwanted tax burdens will be the
result.
Please stop the extension of I-69 using all new terrain and support the
less expensive, environmentally sound alternative – please support the
US 41/I-70 route.
Thank you for your time and please take a moment and let me know your
thoughts on this issue.
Sincerely,
Kathy Crouch
