Lobby Congress regarding
Federal Highway Administration Act
Summer
of 2003 will be the season of lobbying for the shape of the Federal Highway
Administration Act for the next several years. The working name for
this act is TEA-3. The current funding act is TEA-21. We must
learn about and comment to congress in order to preserve the citizen's
rights and shape the funding of the I-69 project.
UPDATE 2-12-03 - One of our
freinds in Washington reports:
I am not sure if there will
be a highway reauthorization bill this
year. I just do not
know. They may just extend TEA-21 for some period of time. If the
Senate Evironmnent & Public Works holds a hearing, I guess that would
be an opportunity. The House may hold hearings also.
>Here is the address: Seator
James Inhofe, Chairman, Senate Evironmnent & Public Works Committee,
Washington, DC 20510
The Trasportation Subcommittee
Chairman is Senator Christopher S. Bond. The address wll work.

-Q: What percentage of the
funding for the construction of this segment of I-69 will come from the
Federal government?
A: (Commissioner Nicol)
The existing transportation authorization legislation (TEA-21) expires
next September and is due for reauthorization in October, 2003. Until that
time, INDOT does not know what Federal funds will be available for the
construction of I-69. Indiana currently receives 90.5% of its Federal gas
tax dollars and is seeking
to raise that level to 95%.
The INDOT long-range plan identifies significant needs throughout
the state, including I-69.
