COUNT US! County Under New Terrain I=69

Who thinks they know how I-69 will connect through Indianapolis?
Not INDOT

(Indiana begins Corridor 18, SIU 2 study in Indiana)

Talk about "New Terrain"... evidence is mounting that I-69 does not plan to use I-465, but instead could go directly through Indianapolis, or a proposed in November 2006 by Governor Mitch Daniels a South West Indianapolis outer loop, "commerce connector.

This does seem consistent with DOT's beliefs that you can solve congestion with more asphalt, and any route more direct is better...Cost, property rights and the environment, be dammed.

By way of explanation, the federal government has made I-69 (known in Congress as Corridor 18) a national priority.  This does not mean that it must be built, but that each state must study the idea of building it with that state's gas tax money collected that state.  Particular cities were defined for the routing.  The entire route was divided into SIU (sections of independent utility) meaning that each section must prove purpose and need and pass through a single process called EIS (Environmental Impact Study).  Occasionally the single EIS is broken into half.  These are called "tiers" as in Tier 1 and Tier 2.  INDOT has even further divided the section SIU3 into multiple SIU between I-64 and I-465.  This is all very confusing and likely that was the intention.

Anyway:

The purpose of this page is to show that SIU #2 in Indiana, is Indianapolis.  INDOT has not started this study.  We find that alone curious and wonder if it might be because what is planned will offend more tens of thousands of hoosiers against the project.

On the National I-69 (Corridor 18) website this is seen like this: http://www.nationali69.com/maps/2.gif
This image linked to nationali69.com, shows congress imagined a through Indianapolis routing for I-69 during passage of the Corridor 18 NAFTA route mandate: http://www.nationali69.com/maps/2.gif

SIU 2 is located completely within the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Studies will consider how I-69 will be routed through Indianapolis. A number of alternative routings will be considered. Possible routes could be via any of a number of facilities including I-465, SH 37/US 31 or other routes.

Quoting: "The third section is within Indianapolis. It
is identified in the national report as "the extension
of I-69 from the northeast side of the City of
Indianapolis to the I-465 loop on the southwest side
of the area." INDOT recognizes, as did the federal
government in the national I-69 study, that the
routing of I-69 within the Indianapolis metro area
also must be determined."

What the heck ? A new highway through the center of
town?

INDOT is messing around with the website, that page is
now here:

http://www.i69indyevn.org/Project_Overview/questions/routing.html
(as corrected above)

a webserver index of some of the pages, including that
one, is here (i've now saved copies of these):

http://www.i69indyevn.org/Project_Overview/questions/

again, and not to beat this to death, the INDOT has
not released, and claims that they have not studied,
how they will get traffic from the 7:00 position on
I465 (where state road 37 meets 465) up to the 2:00
position (where I69 meets 465 on the north side).
this is bs, they have to have some idea and there's
only 2 ways - through the city (!!!) or massive
widening on the NE side of town.

INDOT's claim that "At this time, no determination has
been made as to what that routing should be" stretches
the truth. there's only 2 routes possible.

note there's a whole new website for the west side
expansion - www.accelerate465.in.gov

good luck ! - br
