COUNT US! County Under New Terrain I=69
The Bloomington-Herald Times looks at I-69 with Rose Colored Glasses,
A Clearer View is Certainly Needed

Bloomington Herald Times Editor, Bill Struthers  added to Dann Denny's April 15, 2004  story about Bloomington Dr.Tiwari's  proposed new private  hospital at Fullerton Pike and SR-37:

I-69 plans "call for an interchange to be built at Fullerton Pike".

Reporting "proposed interchanges" as "interchange to be built" is highly inaccurate and will lead to major infrastructure and investment errors if not presented more accurately.

The Draft EIS for I-69, Apendix A reported that 62% of the roads crossed would be closed!  No interchanges, No grade seperations.... closed.  The maps for I-69 only document 10% closed, the rest are called "potential" interchanges or grade separations.   While Fullerton might not be closed, an Interchange there is a total pipe dream.

With almost no exceptions, only roads denoted on the
FEIS/Vol 3 Atlas
<http://deis.i69indyevn.org/FEIS/Vol3-Atlas/PDF/index.html> will get interchanges.

Monroe County I-69  would have four or five interchanges.  South to North:
  1. The New Terrain I-69  meeting point with US37 between Rockport and Dillman Roads,
  2. Indiana 45 (West Second),
  3. Indiana 48 (West Third)
  4. Indiana 46 (to Ellettsville),
  5. Business Indiana 37 North (Serving Bloomington and Oliver's Winery area)

As a major proponent of New Terrain I-69, the H-T should take the responsibility to provide a realisitic even if futuristic look into the proposed I-69/ 3C.  Please do one of those maps/ graphics to show us how 8 lanes* of I-69 will fit between Ken Nunn's new office and Cracker Barrel.   Do some study and calculations and try to take a more realistic view of the effects of INDOT's plan for our city.

We are developing graphic impressions of I-69 built passing Bloomington:

* For documentation of "12 Lanes" at this location,  see Page 8 of Appendix E of the FEIS.  A drawing of this  proposed section  of I-69, including frontage roads can be found on page 19 of this document, labeled Alternate Urban Section I.
