Kevin Enright, former Monroe County Surveyor, here
compares the distance of the New Hybrid Route vs The EPA supported US 41/ I 70 Route.

My basic methodology was to import 1:250,000 USGS raster maps from the Indiana Geological Survey and digitized the two routes. I
had previously digitized the Greene County Alternative 3 Route over the 1:24,000 USGS raster maps. I then assumed the most likely connecting route
from Newberry over to the US 67 Alternative 2 route. I then overlaided this onto the the smaller scale maps along with our  test 5.shapefile for
Monroe County. Everything is projected into UTM 16N so it all fits together nicely. I also used the Terre Haute bypass which is New Terrain. So
there is some digitizing spatial extrapolation involved in both routes.

The proposed hybrid route is 4 miles shorter than I-70 an US 41.  For a comparison of performance see the COUNT US! evaluations.
