Stop I-69 Interstate - COUNT US! County Under New Terrain I-69

On July 20, 2005 the Section 5 Consultants for I-69 unveiled proposed

"I-69 Urban Typical Section with Collector-Distributor Roads (local access lanes)"

as  their preferred alternative to the Raised Urban Interstate with frontage roads as approve from the FEIS by the Record of Decision Tier 1 EIS Evansville to Indianapolis I-69 Study.

Graphics above are photos of a document shown at the 7/20/05 public meeting for Section 5/ Bloomington.
Though the meeting was held near Martinsville in Morgan County, this revised cross section does not mean that the Martinsville raised Urban Interstate Cross Sections have changed.  No public meeting has been held for Section 6/ Martinsville at the date of this posting.

The above plans are under consideration to replace Cross Sections approved in the Tier 1 EIS.

Below is what has been approved so far by INDOT and The Federal Highway Administration:

Interstate I-69 Cross Section Martinsville and Bloomington, Indiana

This plan was central to a Bloomington Herald Times Editorial Opinion that labeled our Raised Urban Interstate information from the FEIS as: as
"...disinformation intended to mislead and frighten people."

as it accepted the proposed cross sections as more credible:

"But no, there will not be an elevated eyesore of a highway with 12 traffic-moving lanes,
she* said.

There. Now you have it.

COUNT US! Libeled by the the Herald Times?

We have serious criticism of the Section 5 new Cross sections that are
  • designed to look like existing SR 37,
  • save money for the I-69 project,
  • and to reduce the amount of land for the project.

We believe that what looks less "frightening" to the Bloomington Herald Times and *Wendy Vachet, the Section 5 consulting firm project manager (the "she" above), is in fact far more frightening if analyzed.
